TxDOT FM 740 Update

Progress can sometimes be painful, and we hear you on what seems to be very slow work on the FM 740 widening project. This is not a City project, but rather a state project. However, City Management stays in contact with TxDOT to urge and encourage progress on behalf of our community on this very important road improvement. Our understanding is that weather, detour adjustments, and utility conflicts have caused the work delays.

Here is the most current estimated construction schedule we received yesterday (weather dependent).

September/November 2016:

Completion of East 2 lanes of FM-740 from Smirl to FM-549/FM-550 and South 2 lanes in front of Amy Parks and City Hall

September/November 2016:

Traffic is moved over to the 2 new lanes

March 2017:

Completion of the intersection at FM-740/FM-550/FM-549

July 2017:

FM-740 is complete
