Rockwall County Veterans Day Celebration November 11
The Rockwall County Veterans Day Celebration will be held at the Rockwall High School Performing Arts Center on the Utley campus, 1201 T.L. Townsend Drive, just north of the Wilkerson-Sanders Memorial Stadium on Wednesday, November 11th at 7:00 PM. Major General Gary Bunch, US Army (Retired) leading the planning has announced Chief Warrant Officer Quint Avenetti, US Marine Corps (Retired) as the keynote speaker for the celebration.
“Quint is an outstanding Marine and Rockwall resident who continues his legacy of service in our community by leading Boy Scout Troop 989,” Gen. Bunch said. Featured performers include the Rockwall-Heath High School Band, conducted by Dr. Tucker and the Rockwall Children’s Chorus conducted by Shelba Gorham-Bell.
The theme for this year’s event is “Celebrating a Legacy of Service” in order to draw a clear distinction between Veterans Day, a day to celebrate service, and Memorial Day, a day to commemorate those who died in service to our nation.
“By planning to hold the ceremony indoors, we have a unique opportunity to highlight the celebratory aspect of Veterans Day,” said Gen. Bunch. “We will use the audio-visual equipment in the Performing Arts Center to feature a first ever Veterans photo montage that will combine photos and music to tell the story of Rockwall County’s Armed Forces Veterans and their legacies of service.”
Rockwall County Veterans and their families can email photographic memories in jpeg/jpg format to American Legion Post 117 at rockwallpost117@gmail.com or bring them to Felicia Morris, County Judge Office, Historic Rockwall County Courthouse. The photographs will be digitized while you wait. Veterans or families should provide a caption for each photograph with name, date and branch of service.
