MOSQUITO SPRAYING IN THE MORAINE NEIGHBORHOOD

The City has received notification that a mosquito in a trap located in the Moraine subdivision has tested positive for the West Nile Virus.

The area will be sprayed for mosquitos on Thursday, July 25, at 9 p.m.

The City of Heath encourages residents to take steps to protect against mosquito-borne illnesses during the hot summer months:

  • Use Insect Repellent – Apply an approved insect repellent containing DEET, picaridin, or lemon eucalyptus oil every time you go outside.
  • Drain Standing Water – Regularly remove water from empty cans, tires, buckets, clogged rain gutters, and saucers under potted plants on your property. Mosquitoes breed in stagnant water.
  • Wear Protective Clothing – Wear long sleeves and pants during dawn and dusk when mosquitoes are most active.

Currently, there are no confirmed human cases of West Nile Virus within the city. The City traps mosquitoes weekly in Heath at seven trap sites from May through October. The mosquitoes are then sent to Austin for testing. If a mosquito trap site tests positive for the West Nile virus, reports are typically received within 48 hours, and fogging of the area will be scheduled.
