How do I apply for employment?
You can apply for open positions by visiting our current job opportunities website and submitting an online application.
Can I leave anything blank on my application?
The information on the application is needed to process qualified applicants. Incomplete applications may be disqualified.
Can I submit a resume instead of completing the online job application?
No, we do not accept electronic resumes without an application. You can add a resume to an application if you wish, but you should always complete the application as if there were no resume attached.
What is the Application Review Process?
Applications are reviewed by the Human Resources department to ensure that the applicant meets the minimum qualifications of the job. Once it is determined that you meet the minimum qualifications, your application will be available to the hiring department for their review. The hiring department will then contact applicants whose background, experience, and education most closely match the needs of the department at that time.
How do I know if I am qualified for the job?
Each current position opening has a detailed description of the minimum qualifications relating to the position. Read minimum qualifications carefully to discern that your qualifications are a close match.
Do I have to take a drug test to become an employee of the City of Heath?
Yes. All applicants must successfully complete and pass a drug-screening test, a criminal credit background check and a pre-employment physical prior to any job offer being final.

What will happen if I’m selected for the position?
The hiring department will notify you that you have been selected for the position and that a representative from the Human Resources department will be in contact regarding pre-employment processes.
I do not see the job that I’m interested in today. Does the City have more career opportunities?
You can only apply for positions that are currently open and posted; however, you are encouraged to fill out a job interest card. This feature provides you with the opportunity to select job categories that interest you, and you will receive an email notification when a job in one of your selected categories is available.
Are all employees eligible for benefits?
All benefits are available to eligible full-time employees and a limited number of benefits are available to part-time employees. There are no benefits for temporary employees.
How long do I have to work for the City before I am able to retire?
The City of Heath is part of the Texas Municipal Retirement System. Employees become vested for retirement after five years. Employees may retire after five years and at least 60 years of age, or after 20 years of service at any age.
Does the City participate in Social Security and Medicare?
Yes, the City participates in Social Security and Medicare.
