Phone Scam Alert

Heath DPS warn of phone scam

Note: This entry was last modified on July 24, 2014: 8:09 am and may be out of date.

Heath DPS has received reports from citizens regarding a phone scam. The caller will identify themselves as a Sheriff’s Deputy or Police Officer.

The caller then tells the citizen that they have failed to show for a jury summons and they will need to pay a fine or be arrested. The caller directs the citizen to obtain a gift card or other type of preloaded payment card and deliver it to a prearranged location. (Yes, sounds crazy. But remember that targets are those who are more vulnerable, including the elderly.)

If you live in Heath and receive a call like this, contact Heath DPS at 972-771-7724. If you live in another city, call your local law enforcement agency.
